How to Specifically Pray for European Students

10/26/2018

“To get nations back on their feet, we must first get down on our knees.” - Billy Graham

“Be careful how you live among your unbelieving neighbors. Even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behavior, and they will believe and give honor to God when he comes to judge the world.” – 1 Peter 2:12 NLT

Prayer is the most important and powerful thing we can do for international students. Here are some suggestions for each day of the week to pray for students from a European background.

Monday – Pray that European students who come from a post-Christian worldview will be open to encountering Jesus Christ here on campus. Ephesians 1:19-20 NLT – “I pray that you will begin to understand the incredible greatness of his power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God's right hand in the heavenly realms.”

Tuesday – Pray that European students would see a real need for a relationship with Christ and be open to hearing his truth. 1 Thessalonians 2:13 NLT – “And we will never stop thanking God that when we preached his message to you, you didn't think of the words we spoke as being just our own. You accepted what we said as the very word of God - which, of course, it was. And this word continues to work in you who believe.

Wednesday – Pray that European students would make friendships on campus with genuine Christians who would demonstrate the unconditional love of Christ to them. Romans 12:9-10 NLT – “Don't just pretend that you love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Stand on the side of the good. Love each other with genuine affection and take delight in honoring each other.”

Thursday - Pray that European students would realize that there are truth claims which are worth caring deeply about. Romans 1:19-20 NLT – “For the truth about God is known to them instinctively. God has put this knowledge in their hearts. From the time the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky and all that God made. They can clearly see his invisible qualities - his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse whatsoever for not knowing God.”

Friday - Pray that the pride of the European students would be broken before the Lord and that they humble themselves before the Lord. First John 2:16-17 NLT – “For the world offers only the lust for physical pleasure, the lust for everything we see, and pride in our possessions. These are not from the Father. They are from this evil world. And this world is fading away, along with everything it craves. But if you do the will of God, you will live forever.”

Saturday - Pray that European students who desire great wisdom would find it only in Christ. Romans 11:33 NLT – “Oh, what a wonderful God we have! How great are his riches and wisdom and knowledge!”

Sunday - Pray that European students who discover a personal relationship with Christ while studying here in the U.S. would freely share that with their peers upon returning home. Colossians 1:23 NLT – “But you must continue to believe this truth and stand in it firmly. Don't drift away from the assurance you received when you heard the Good News. The Good News has been preached all over the world, and I, Paul, have been appointed by God to proclaim it.”

“The prayer offered to God in the morning during your quiet time is the key that unlocks the door of the day. Any athlete knows that it is the start that ensures a good finish.” - Adrian Rogers

“Then all of you can join together with one voice, giving praise and glory to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. So accept each other just as Christ has accepted you; then God will be glorified.” - Romans 15:6-7 NLT

Prayer is the most important and powerful thing we can do for international students. Here are some suggestions for each day of the week to pray for students from an African background.

Monday – Pray that African students who know Christ and have a Christian background would allow Christ to live his life out through them each day on campus. 1 Corinthians 1:30 NLT – “God alone made it possible for you to be in Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made Christ to be wisdom itself. He is the one who made us acceptable to God. He made us pure and holy, and he gave himself to purchase our freedom.”

Tuesday – Pray that African students who are not believers would meet and become friends with true believers in Christ on campus who would love them unconditionally during the course of their degree studies. Galatians 3:8 NLT – “What's more, the Scriptures looked forward to this time when God would accept the Gentiles, too, on the basis of their faith. God promised this good news to Abraham long ago when he said, ‘All nations will be blessed through you.’”

Wednesday – Pray that African students would seek fellowship in solid Christian campus groups who would help them come to Christ and to grow up into him. 1 John 1:7 NLT – “But if we are living in the light of God's presence, just as Christ is, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from every sin.”

Thursday - Pray that African students who know Christ would join good churches and develop Christian community while studying here. Hebrews 10:24-25 NLT – “Think of ways to encourage one another to outbursts of love and good deeds. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage and warn each other, especially now that the day of his coming back again is drawing near.”

Friday - Pray that African students would model godly character while on campus. 1 Peter 2:12 NLT - “Be careful how you live among your unbelieving neighbors. Even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behavior, and they will believe and give honor to God when he comes to judge the world.”

Saturday - Pray that African students who know Christ personally would grow and mature in their faith while here studying. Ephesians 1:16-17 NLT – “I have never stopped thanking God for you. I pray for you constantly, asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you might grow in your knowledge of God.”

Sunday - Pray that African students who are not believers would humble themselves and respond to the Spirit’s call. Romans 5:17 NLT – “The sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over us, but all who receive God's wonderful, gracious gift of righteousness will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ.”

How To Pray for Muslim Students Specifically

10/12/2018

“True prayer is neither a mere mental exercise nor a vocal performance. It is far deeper than that—it is spiritual transaction with the Creator of Heaven and Earth.” - Charles Spurgeon

“Dear brothers and sisters, the longing of my heart and my prayer to God is that the Jewish people might be saved.” – Romans 10:1 NLT. If Paul wanted to see Jewish people saved, do we want to see Muslim peoples saved in the same way? Prayer is the most important and powerful thing we can do for international students. Here are some suggestions for each day of the week to pray for students from a Muslim background.

Monday – Pray that Muslim students would realize there is more to life than just career and money. Hebrews 13:5a NLT - “Stay away from the love of money; be satisfied with what you have.”

Tuesday – Pray that Muslim students would think deeply about what they most desire in a relationship with God (and find Allah lacking). Then that they would be open to the Spirit’s call. Romans 11:32 NLT - “For God has imprisoned all people in their own disobedience so he could have mercy on everyone.”

Wednesday – Pray that Muslim students would have dreams and visions of Isa (Jesus). Acts 2:17 NLT - “In the last days, God said, I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.”

Thursday - Pray that Muslim students would be open to serious discussions with Christians on campus about spiritual issues. Acts 16:13-14 NLT – “On the Sabbath we went a little way outside the city to a riverbank, where we supposed that some people met for prayer, and we sat down to speak with some women who had come together. One of them was Lydia from Thyatira, a merchant of expensive purple cloth. She was a worshiper of God. As she listened to us, the Lord opened her heart, and she accepted what Paul was saying.”

Friday - Pray that Muslim students would meet former Muslims on campus who have come to Christ personally and who show genuine love for their former spiritual brothers.  Galatians 5:6 NLT – “For when we place our faith in Christ Jesus, it makes no difference to God whether we are circumcised or not circumcised. What is important is faith expressing itself in love.”

Saturday - Pray that Muslim students would “submit” (root meaning of Islam) to the call of Christ. Ephesians 5:21 NLT – “And further, you will submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.”

Sunday - Pray that Muslim-background students who come to know Christ personally would be willing to be faithful witnesses for Christ on campus. First Peter 3:15 NLT – “Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if you are asked about your Christian hope, always be ready to explain it.”

How to Pray for Indian Students Specifically

10/5/2018

"There are parts of our calling, works of the Holy Spirit, and defeats of the darkness that will come no other way than through furious, fervent, faith-filled, unceasing prayer." - Beth Moore

“But it is actually best for you that I go away, because if I don't, the Counselor won't come. If I do go away, he will come because I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convince the world of its sin, and of God's righteousness, and of the coming judgment.” ~John 16:7-8 NLT

Prayer is the most important and powerful thing we can do for international students. Here are some suggestions for ways to pray for Indian students from a Hindu background each day of the week.

Monday – Pray that Indian students would long for real spirituality that involves a relationship with an infinite and personal God. Hebrews 11:6 NLT – “So, you see, it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that there is a God and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.”

Tuesday – Pray that Indian students would open themselves to humbly seeking after God.
Psalm 69:32-33 NLT – “The humble will see their God at work and be glad. Let all who seek God’s help live in joy. For the LORD hears the cries of his needy ones; he does not despise his people who are oppressed.”

Wednesday – Pray that Indian students would see things in Christians which they would want in their own lives and realize those things only come from Christ. 1 Peter 3:15 NLT – “Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if you are asked about your Christian hope, always be ready to explain it.”

Thursday – Pray that Indian students would be open to studying God’s Word the Bible. Romans 10:17 NLT - “Yet faith comes from listening to this message of good news - the Good News about Christ.”

Friday – Pray that Indian students would be open to exploring the exclusive claims of Christ.
John 14:6 – “Jesus told him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.”

Saturday – Pray that Indian students would be open to a discipling relationship with a mature Christian. Luke 14:33 NLT – “So no one can become my disciple without giving up everything for me.”

Sunday – Pray that Indian students would be willing to share their new faith with their peers and that God would use it to start a revival. Romans 1:16 NLT – “For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes - Jews first and also Gentiles.”
